Slackware 8.0/8.1 Linux Experience
- Fully built and configured computer network based on TCP/IP, comprising of a linux server with separate firewall box & windows client machines.
- Allocation of shares configured with the understanding of the concepts of user and group identifications and its relation to owner, group & world permissions of files & directories.
- 'Samba' used to allow a users to access their home directories (and group directories) on windows client machines using encrypted passwords.
- Intranet and Extranet created using HTML, Frames, Javascript and the 'Apache' webserver.
- The configuration of firewall scripts using iptables (2.4.18 kernel) to enable routing decisions (accept, deny or drop) of packets according to the input, output, forward, pre-routing and post-routing rules.
- Denial of access to designated ports for security reasons.
- Firewall box administered remotely using 'telnet'.
- Configuration of own 'bash' scripts for backup and log checking purposes.
- File transfer using ftp.
- Installation of Slackware 8.0/8.1 Linux onto server, installation of video/mouse drivers and set-up of XF86Config file to run KDE.
- Recompiling the 2.4.18 and 2.2.19 Kernels to enable the use of additional sound devices, ethernet network cards, network file systems and parallel, serial (ppp) and USB support.
